Answers To The Questions Men (And Their Families) Actually Ask.

If yours isn’t here, ask us directly. We answer every message that comes in.

Who is Stand Ready actually for?

Stand Ready is built for men — most of them 50 and up — who want to keep the physical autonomy they still have and rebuild what they've lost. That includes newly retired men looking for structure, men who've had a scare (a fall, a diagnosis, a moment of humbling), and men whose families have noticed changes before they have. We also work with younger men who need a standard more than they need a workout.

How is this different from a gym?

A gym is a room full of equipment and other people. Stand Ready is one coach, in your home, focused entirely on you for the hour he's there. No audience, no waiting for equipment, no comparing yourself to a 30-year-old on the machine next to you. Same coach every session, so nobody starts over each week.

How is this different from physical therapy?

Physical therapy is medical. It's designed to get you cleared after an injury or surgery, and it ends when the insurance ends. Stand Ready starts where PT stops — the bridge between being 'cleared' and being fully back to your life. We coordinate with PTs and doctors when it's useful, but we're not a replacement for medical care.

What does a typical session look like?

Sixty to seventy-five minutes in your home. About ten minutes of movement prep, thirty to forty minutes of strength, mobility, and stability work, ten minutes of balance or capacity work, and a short debrief. Same coach, same standard, every session.

How often do we train?

Most clients start at two or three sessions per week for the first twelve weeks. After the foundational program, most drop to one session per week or one every other week, plus async check-ins. The goal is not to become dependent on us — it's to build capacity you keep for life.

Do I need equipment at home?

No. Most sessions require almost nothing: floor space, a sturdy chair, and a wall. If a program calls for something specific — a set of resistance bands, a light kettlebell — we tell you what to get and where. We don't sell equipment.

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on session frequency, location, and program length. Foundational twelve-week programs typically start in the low four figures per month for two sessions per week in the New York City area. Ongoing coaching after the foundational program is less. We give you a real number on the first call so you can decide honestly.

Where do you work?

In-home sessions in New York City (all five boroughs), most of Connecticut, and select parts of northern New Jersey and Westchester. Remote/hybrid coaching is available for men anywhere in the U.S. who want the same standard but can't get us to their door.

Can my adult children pay for this on my behalf?

Yes. This is common. Many programs are booked and paid for by an adult son or daughter, and the sessions run with the father. We can invoice a family member directly and keep the man's own experience simple.

I'm 80. Am I too old for this?

No. We regularly work with men in their eighties. The exercises and the pace change; the standard doesn't. What matters is not your age — it's whether your doctor has cleared you to be active. If we have any concerns, we'll ask you to check with your physician before we start.

I've had a knee replacement / hip replacement / heart event. Can I still work with you?

In most cases, yes — after your doctor and physical therapist have cleared you. We coordinate with your care team when it's useful. If we're not the right fit for where you are medically, we'll say so and point you to someone who is.

What does the first conversation involve?

A twenty to thirty minute phone call with Johnny. You tell him where you are, what's changed, and what you'd want to be true a year from now. He tells you honestly whether Stand Ready is the right fit. No pitch, no pressure, no obligation. If it's a fit, we schedule an in-home assessment.

How is Stand Ready different from a wellness app or online program?

Apps are designed to give you information. What most men over 50 need is not more information — they need a person who shows up, watches them move, adjusts in real time, and holds them accountable. That's a relationship, not a subscription.

Do you work with women?

Our current programs and voice are built specifically for men. We refer women to trusted colleagues who specialize in in-home longevity coaching for women. If you're a spouse or family member trying to help a man in your life, that's exactly who this site is for.

Are you a veteran-owned business?

Yes. Johnny served thirteen years in the United States Marine Corps. Stand Ready is veteran-owned and family-owned. Veterans get priority scheduling and a veteran-specific rate.
